Hospital Ward Clerk
The McKenzie College Hospital Ward Clerk Program is designed to respond to the need for skilled administrative and clerical staff for the medical field. Health Information is a field that requires employees provide quick and accurate service for their employers and patients.
The program includes four major areas of instruction:
- Medical anatomy and terminology
- Accurate and timely transcription
- Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience
- Competent technical and computer skills
A Hospital Ward Clerk works with medical reports, correspondence, records, patient-care information, statistics, medical research and administrative material. Hospital Ward Clerks are required to be highly accurate in the process of working with these documents and information. In order to be effective they should have a high degree of familiarity with the terminology and context of the information being recorded.
Hospital Ward Clerk are employed by hospitals, clinics and doctors under a variety of job descriptions including Ward Clerks, Secretaries, and Support Services. This provides a wide range of work setting available to qualified people in both hospitals and office environments.
The McKenzie College campus is centrally located in downtown Sydney. Students can work within a collaborative environment taking advantage of both structured learning sessions and peer assisted learning. Instructors and mentors provide students with access to experience and industry knowlege. Student have access to local amenities, bus routes and entertainment all within walking distance of our 74 Townsend St Campus.
Ward clerks, secretaries and administration staff positions are regularly posted for the Cape Breton and Halifax health districts.
McKenzie College’s Hospital Ward Clerk program is pending NS Department of Labour and Advanced Education Review and will be starting in February 2018.

- $50.00 registration fee
